If you look through any publication right now about weight loss, you’ll see a lot of contradicting information. One magazine might say cut out all the carbs while another might say that a high carbohydrate diet is best for weight loss. I am here to dispel some of the top myths because I am tired of seeing this misinformation throughout all of the magazines.

The first thing that I want to let you in on is when you read something regarding weight loss, the author or writer might need to elaborate a little more. For example, the first myth I am going to expose is the low carb myth.

The human body needs carbohydrates in the diet in order to provide energy to the brain and cellular mechanisms. Also, the brain runs best on glucose, which is a simple form of carbohydrates. However, when it comes to weight loss, you want to create a negative energy balance, cut out the calories and you will lose weight. The best place that I have found when it comes to cutting out the calories is from carbohydrates. Reason being is because the more body fat you, the more insulin resistance you become, this equates to you needing less carbs in your diet. Also, when you restrict carbs, your body is forced more to feed off of your body fat to be used for energy purposes. If you are an athlete, then you need carbohydrates because chances are you have a low level of body fat and doing a lot of exercising every day.

Another myth I would like to expose is the act of performing slow cardio for fat loss. Slow cardio for fat loss might be good in the beginning, but over time, it will get easier for your body to adapt. In time, it will start burning less and less calories to perform the necessary work. You might still be able to get your heart rate up, but you won’t burn as many calories. You need to perform interval work to keep your metabolism revved up for a longer period of time. This won’t happen with regular, slow cardio.

The last myth that I want to expose is for women and that lifting heavy weights is going to get you big muscles. This can’t be further from the truth. The reason men are men and women are women are because of hormones. Men produce a lot of testosterone. That is why they have more muscle mass as compared to women. Women especially need to lift heavy weights because it has been shown to prevent osteoporosis and build a nice long lean look.

These are just some of the common myths that I wanted to expose because I was tired of reading about them in all of the magazines. Take what I said and put it to good use right away.
