If you’re trying to lose weight my best advice is to go nuts for nuts. That’s right; studies have shown that nuts are very helpful when it comes to losing weight. Nuts are high in vitamins, minerals, lots of nutritious calories, fat, and protein.

Nuts are plant-based and do not contain any cholesterol or saturated fats; all the oils and fats in nuts are natural and are very good for you, especially your heart.

Nuts decrease your food cravings because they are so filling and will give you lots of energy to help burn off those calories. You cannot overeat on nuts, once your body has enough nutrition that it needs it won’t allow you to stuff anymore in there.

Studies have shown that people who eat nuts also tend to eat more fruits and vegetables which are also very good in helping to loose weight. Nuts along with fruits and vegetables is by far the best combination to help stop those junk food cravings which we so easily tend to nurture every day. Once the body has received the proper nutrients which it needs it will stop nagging for that bag of potato chips or that freshly baked chocolate cake.

Here are some essential nuts which can be added to your diet to help stop those cravings and become healthy once again. Its best to eat these nuts raw without any salt or other added ingredients.

– Almonds are one of my favorites; they are high in fibre-which help the digestive system, protein, vitamin E, magnesium and copper.

– Brazil nuts are a good source of the B vitamin thiamine, selenium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, and Omega-3 fatty acids.

– Cashews are rich in copper and magnesium.

– Chestnuts unlike most other nuts are low in calories and fat, high in carbohydrates and contain vitamin C which no other nuts contain. They are also a good source of folate and potassium.

– Hazelnuts are an excellent source of calcium.

– Macadamia nuts contain phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium.

– Pecans are an excellent source of fibre and protein.

– Pine nuts are good for the heart and are an excellent source of protein.

– Pistachios are an excellent source of fibre, vitamin B6, magnesium and calcium.

– Walnuts are an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids. They also contain vitamins B and E, copper, iron and zinc which are great antioxidants.

As you can see nuts contain enough protein, calcium and omega fatty acids and other essential minerals so that we do not need to eat any animal proteins. We are told to eat meat, dairy and eggs, but the truth is it’s best to stay away from all animal proteins if you want to lose weight and/or avoid health problems.

Don’t eliminate all meat and dairy from your diet at once, but rather make gradual habit-forming changes. This may have a very slow affect on your body, but in the end you’ll see the lasting results.

Rule number one when it comes to loosing weight is to NEVER starve your self. This will mess with your metabolism and will make you gain it all back once you start eating. Eat the foods you like including meat, dairy, eggs, and other foods; but slowly increase your intake of nuts.

It takes a lot of will-power and discipline to break the addiction to animal proteins and other cooked foods. But if carried out over time it can be done without feeling too deprived of your favorite foods, and again the results will have a lasting effect.
